Kiddos Books
Kiddos Books — Helpful answers.
Getting started, everyday use, and clear answers for grown-ups.
Which reading mode should we choose?
Start with Read Along for narrated stories and highlighted words. Read With Me supports trying words and sentences together; Read By Myself gives growing readers a quieter independent experience. Choose by comfort and interest, rather than treating the modes as a test.
Which languages are the stories available in?
Kiddos Books stories are available in English, French, and Spanish. These are story languages; the app interface may support additional languages. A familiar story can be a gentle way to explore another language together.
Can we read without an internet connection?
Download the books you want in the app before going offline. New books, purchases and subscription recovery need a connection. The website story example also needs a connection to load its artwork and audio.
What can we read for free?
The app includes a starting selection of books. Books Premium or eligible Kiddos+ membership opens the full digital library. Check the app for its current included selection, prices and any Apple trial offer; downloading the app does not start a paid subscription.
Does Kiddos+ include printed books?
No. Kiddos+ is an app subscription. Paperbacks and other physical editions on Amazon are separate purchases. You can enjoy a printed book without an app subscription.
Can parents and teachers read together with children?
Yes. Listen to a page, pause for a prediction, or take turns reading. Our Learn together library also has printable science posters and conversation guides. It is a separate website resource and does not require an app subscription.
Where is Kiddos+ available?
Kiddos+ is currently offered in the United States. New purchase availability depends on the Apple storefront, available products and successful iCloud setup. Individual app availability and standalone plans can differ. The in-app purchase screen shows the options available to you.
How do I restore Kiddos+ on another device?
Connect to the internet and open the app originally used to subscribe. In its grown-up settings, use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account that made the purchase. Check iCloud is enabled for the account being used, then open the other participating Kiddos apps. Cross-app membership recognition and Apple Family Sharing are different: do not assume that a different family member’s Apple Account is eligible. Check the subscription’s current Apple sharing settings or contact us before buying again.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Use the subscription controls in the original purchasing app or your device’s Apple subscription settings. Apple shows the current price, renewal date, cancellation and any eligible sharing options. Removing an app does not cancel an Apple-billed subscription.
Is the free app sample a subscription trial?
No. An app-provided book selection or learning, listening or play allowance is separate from an Apple subscription trial. The app explains its current sample. If an Apple trial is offered, eligibility, duration, price and automatic-renewal terms are shown before the grown-up confirms the purchase.
What can I ask Siri?
Start with the app name in your request. These examples use the app’s registered actions; Siri’s response can vary with your language, device and installed version.
- Siri, search in Kiddos Books.Open the regular book search screen, then choose what to look for.
- Siri, read a new book in Kiddos Books.Open an eligible unread story using your library settings.
- Siri, continue reading in Kiddos Books.Return to the saved page of an unfinished story.
- Siri, choose a series in Kiddos Books.Open the series chooser.
Search has been checked by voice. If another phrase is not recognized, use its action in Shortcuts. Reading opens the illustrated app; this is not a background audiobook player. Parent choices and book access still apply.
What can I search for in Spotlight?
Swipe down from the middle of the Home Screen and type a book or series name. Look for the result belonging to Kiddos Books.
- The Four SeasonsFind the book or its separately labeled Series result.
- Kiddos BooksFind the app and available quick actions such as Search or Continue.
Results use the current catalog and your parent-selected ages and series. A result opens the normal shelf or reader and does not unlock a paid book. Reading history and saved pages are not search results.
What does the Home Screen widget do?
A Story to Read puts a book cover on your Home Screen. It favors eligible unread stories, then stories read longer ago. Tap the cover to open that book through the normal reader and access checks.
Small, medium, large and iPad extra-large layouts are planned. Suggestions are prepared for four-hour changes, but iOS controls when they refresh. A widget tap does not specifically request read-aloud or Continue; your normal reader preferences apply.
Add it to your Home Screen
- When the update is available, install it and open the app to complete setup.
- Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen. Choose Edit, then Add Widget, and find Kiddos Books.
- Choose a size, add the widget, then finish editing. On older system versions, the gallery may use a + button.
How can I use the app with Shortcuts?
In Apple’s Shortcuts app, create a shortcut and search the action list for Kiddos Books. The quick actions are Search, Read New Book, Choose a Series and Continue; more configurable actions include Find Books, Open Book and Read Aloud.
- A story for laterAdd Search Books, enter a title or topic, save your shortcut and tap it to reopen that search.
- Read a chosen bookAdd Read Aloud, choose a book and an available reading language, then run it to open the illustrated reader.
Choose content with your child. Actions do not bypass access settings or silently replace a different book already being read.
Make a shortcut
- Open Shortcuts, start a new shortcut and search the action list for Kiddos Books.
- Choose an available action, fill in any choices and give the shortcut a clear name.
- Run it once with a grown-up to check the result. Keep any app setup, unlock or parent confirmation in place.
Why can’t I see an action, search result or widget yet?
This is an update preview. Some described features may not be in your installed App Store version yet. Check the app’s release notes when an update becomes available.
The examples use English. Features can depend on device, system version, language and region. Some natural-language requests need a supported on-device model; simple named actions are a separate feature. Apple’s Siri service has its own processing rules, even when an app’s own helper runs on device. These native features do not run on this website.
A few things to check
- After updating, open the app and finish its initial setup before trying system actions.
- For missing search results, check the app’s Show App in Search and Show Content in Search settings. Siri also needs to be enabled for the app where that setting is offered.
- If a spoken request fails, try the matching action in Shortcuts or open the app directly. Apple controls recognition, result order and how many quick actions fit on screen.
